Learning mathematics requires one to proceed by small steady increments, each based on what has been previously learned. One cannot "cram" for a mathematics exam and expect to learn anything. For this reason, attendance is mandatory. Your class attendance makes up part of the "class participation" segment of your grade. All of this is even more obvious and acute for an upper-level course. If you know you will be absent, please let me know if possible ahead of time. I am open to the possibility of ocassional extra scheduled class meetings to discuss homework exercises, should the class be interested. As these are not part of the course nor scheduled by the Registrar, they will be considered 'optional' as fas as grading policy is concerned. However, please make every effort to attend them as they may be helpful to you!
